Social scholarships

The University of Central Europe in Skalica (hereinafter referred to as the “UCEU”) provides students social scholarships from the resources of the state budget assigned by the Ministry of Education, Sciences, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as the “MoESRS SR”).

Terms and conditions of granting social scholarships have been defined by MoESRS SR and are equal at all universities.

A student shall be entitled to a social scholarship, if:

  • He/she is a student of full-time form of studies, 1st or 2nd degree of university studies at a university having its registered office in Slovakia;
  • He/she has not yet received a university degree in the currently studied degree of studies (e.g. a student of 1st degree who has already received the Bc. degree can apply for a scholarship only on the 2nd degree);
  • He/she has not exceeded the standard length of studies;
  • He/she has permanent residence in Slovakia;
  • He/she meets social conditions;
  • He/she applies for a social scholarship and submits all the necessary documents;

A student shall not be entitled to social scholarship, if:

  • He/she studies in a study programme of the 1st degree and has already received university education of the 1st degree;
  • He/she has already received university education of the 2nd degree;
  • He/she was provided social scholarship in the relevant year of studies or in a part of the study programme on the relevant degree of university studies;
  • He/she studies the relevant study programme for longer than the standard length of studies;
  • He/she studies in part-time form of studies;

The income of the student and of his/her jointly evaluated persons shall be decisive when granting social scholarship. Social scholarship shall be provided to a student provided the condition is met that the decisive income of the student and his/her jointly evaluated persons is lower than the income limit. The income limit decisive for the origin of the right to social scholarship and the amount of social scholarship shall be derived apart from others also from the amounts of subsistence minimum valid as of 1 July of the relevant year.

Subsistence minimum as of 1 July 2014:

€198.09 per month in case of one adult individual;

€138.19 per month in case of a further jointly evaluated adult individual;

€90.42 per month in case of an unprovided child or an unprovided minor child.


The amount of scholarship

The minimum amount of social scholarship shall be     €10

The maximum amount of social scholarship of a student studying in the place of permanent residence (an area within 29 km from the university's registered office)       €220

The maximum amount of social scholarship of a student studying outside of permanent residence (an area of more than 30 km from the university's registered office)   €275
