Student loans

One of the possibilities for covering the costs related touniversity studies is to obtaina loan. A loan can be taken up by a student either from the Education Support Fund or from a bank.

EDUCATION SUPPORT FUND

The Education Support Fund was established on 1 January 2013 by Act No. 396/2012 Coll. on Education Support Fund as the legal successor of the Student Loan Fund and Loan Fund for Starting Educators. The main activity of the Education Support Fund is to provide loans to university students, teaching staff, professional school employee and doctoral study programme students in the full-form of studies.

The deadline for applications for a loan in the academic year 2014/2015 has been set to be 31 October 2014.

The following can apply for a student loan:

  • A students of the 1st degree of university studies in the full-time or part-time form of studies at a university in the Slovak Republic or at a foreign university (Bc. study programme);
  • A students of the 2nd degree of university studies in the full-time or part-time form of studies at a university in the Slovak Republic or at a foreign university (Mgr., Ing., Dr study programme); Studies at a foreign university must be equal to studies at a university in the Slovak Republic based on a decision of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic;
  • A student of the 3rd degree of university studies in the full-time or part-time form of studies at a university in the Slovak Republic or at a foreign university (doctoral study programme), while in this category it is not possible to combine loans pursuant to Section 10 (loans for students) and pursuant to Section 14 (loans for educators) of the Act on the Education Support Fund;

The application for a loan can be submitted only by an applicant already enrolled to studies in the academic year 2014/2015.

The applicant must also meet the following requirements:

  • Have a permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic; or
  • Have the status of a Slovak living abroad; or
  • Be a citizen of the European Union with the right to permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic or a family member of such person with the right to permanent residence;

Amount of loan:

  • The minimum amount of loan has been set at EUR 500.
  • The maximum amount of loan for students of 1st and 2nd degree of university studies has been set at EUR 2,500.
  • The maximum amount of a loan for students of 3rd degree of university studies has been set at EUR 5,000.

Interest rate:

  • The interest rate for loans provided in the academic year 2014/2015 has been set at 3.19% p.a.

Loan maturity:

  • The minimum loan maturity has been set to be 5 years.
  • The maximum loan maturity has been set to be 10 years.

SBERBANK

Loan for university students from SBERBANK

  • Advantageous interest rate;
  • Applicant for loan does not have to be a bank client;
  • The amount of the loan from EUR 1,000 to EUR 5,000, including as much as EUR 1,000 in one academic year;
  • Loan maturity period of at least 12 months and not more than the double of the study length, however a maximum of 10 years;
  • No fee for loan provision;
  • No fee for loan account administration;
  • The possibility of an early loan repayment;
  • The possibility of extraordinary instalments;
  • Free counselling;
  • Students can ask for a loan in every year, from the first to the last year of studies;

Conditions:

  • The age between 18 and 30 years;
  • Submitting a confirmation of university studies;
  • Submitting income confirmation (if the student him/herself does not earn and does not document income, a co-debtor with regular income (a parent or a third person) must always join the loan relationship;
  • Submitting account statements or salary slips for the last 3 months;

VÚB BANKA

Flexiloan for university students from VÚB

Flexiloan up to the amount:

  • EUR 5,000;
  • EUR 10,000 (UCEU students);
  • EUR 25,000 (MBA students);
  • Loan repayment can be split up to 72 months;
  • The first loan instalment can be postponed by 3 months.
  • An advantageous interest rate of 7.90% p.a. shall apply to the loan;

Guarantee:

  • If you are a student in part-time form of studies, you will have to document your income.
  • If you are a student in full-time form of studies, you will not have to document your income, in selected cases income of your parent or sibling will be required to be documented.

  • 50% discount on the fee charged for loan provision;
  • Interest rate reduced by 1% p.a. for the whole period of loan's maturity;

Under which conditions are you entitled to the advantages?

  1. If you finished the previous semester of your studies with an average study result of 1.50* (inclusive).
  2. If you participated in the last year or if you are currently participating in a scientific grant/project, Student Scientific and Professional Activity or if you have participated in a study stay at a university abroad.
  3. If you have been carrying out a voluntary activity for at least 6 months.
